"My dyeing technique is a combination of traditional Japanese Shibori, African Batik, and various methods unique to my own artistic identity garnered and profected over my 17+ years as a professional painter. I incorporate a lot of recycled cloth and materials into my work, as I find they never come truly "blank," but rather filled with an abundance of character and a unique story. I have always been attracted to rich color and texture. No two pieces of cloth are ever the same and each one takes dye much differently. As a result, the unbanding of the dyed cloth always as a fun element of surprise, a juxaposition between my purposeful composition and a component of mystery. As a painter with a background in hyperrealistic oil painting, I rather enjoy not being able to rely on the result. Whereas hyperrealistic oil paint is exacting and always expected. Each piece takes several weeks to create, as I dye my cloth the way I paint, layer upon layer. Some piecse have as many as 7 or 8 unique dyeing processes. I can come close, but never reacreate any given peice, making each one vastly unique. Many of my summers as a child were spent on fishing ponds with copsious amounts of dragonflies. I am very connected and inspired by the dragonfly, and it something you will always either boldy see in my work or will be peeking through somewhere."
